Which Explorer goes where
At this point in the Particle Accelerator, the Hook Gun Explorer reaches the plate below the half-open vent. The Goop Gun Explorer takes the adjoining upper vent route and approaches the opening above the room. Your separated routes are part of the solution: the partner in the vent supplies the extra weight from a distance.
Reach the upper vent opening
- As the Hook Gun Explorer, grapple the vent mechanism to open it partway. The remaining gap gives your partner an opening for the goop shot needed at the plate.
If you need extra height in the vent, place a goop cube against the wall as a climbing ledge. This provides a foothold for reaching the opening.Playing this video connects to YouTube.

Make your partner heavy enough
- As the Hook Gun Explorer, stand centered on the pressure plate below the vent. Your normal weight alone does not meet the mechanism's requirement.
- As the Goop Gun Explorer, shoot a goop cube through the gap directly onto your partner. The effect increases their effective weight enough to satisfy the plate's two-person condition.
- Keep the weighted Explorer centered on the plate until the barrier opens. That opening confirms the pressure mechanism has registered the heavier load.
Apply the goop to the Explorer standing on the plate. This mechanism uses your partner's increased weight, whereas an ordinary floor switch can use a separate cube. You do not need to bring the Goop Gun Explorer physically through the vent before activating this plate.
Clear the goop and move through
As the weighted Explorer, move through the passage once its barrier opens. Keep the goop applied until it is no longer needed for the plate.Playing this video connects to YouTube.
If the barrier stays closed
Check your partner's position and where the goop landed. Have the plate Explorer remain centered on the switch, then apply the cube directly to them rather than an unrelated surface. The barrier opens when the plate registers the added weight.
If another cube placement is blocked, recall an existing cube before trying again; the Goop Gun initially has limited deployed-cube capacity. If the vent itself still appears only partly open, return your attention to the plate below it. The way forward at this reunion point comes from weighting your partner.
